Songs like "Lady (You Bring Me Up)" and "Why You Wanna Try Me" were cool, but let's be honest "Oh No"(penned by Mr. Richie) was the best song on here. All the other songs besides "Lucy", were done without Lionel in the studio, and to me, that told the story.

The year was - and this was the album that turned the Commodores into certifiable superstars in the crossover and commercial market. Not that they weren't popular before - they had a huge R&B following, consistently amazing albums, and some pop music success, but nothing like it was after this album was released. was the year that the group embarked upon a massive nationwide tour /5(68).

Even though The Commodores were still capable of straight-up funk (Brick House), they were slowly but surly moving in the Pop direction. The song writing of one Mr. Lionel Richie was starting to shine through, and hey, what can you say, "Easy" will go down as the song that boosted the group into the galaxy!

Simple as it is to name an album after your band, The Commodores is the perfect title for this collection. Unlike anything else by the Commodores (except, possibly, their equally amazing Live! album), this puts every strength of the band on full display. It starts with the hard funk of the core band and ends with a perfect slide of Lionel Richie balladry.
