(Album link here) The relationship between post punk and genres like funk and disco is pretty well documented, but I don't think anyone quite got it right like A Certain Ratio did. It's simultaneously dark and disjointed but ultimately pretty danceable and poppy for what it is, and it's absolutely the high point of their discography.

40th Anniversary of Bowie's Space Oddity single. This was Bowie's slow climber to get to No.1 in the charts, released in and got to No.5 but was re-released in where it went to No.1 in the singles charts. The A-Side has quite a colourful picture which looks like an amateurish hand drawn cover with a period picture of Bowie added in/5().

Jan 11,  · Bowie was hardly an obscure artist by the time he released Ziggy. He’d had a #1 hit with the single Space Oddity in the UK (#15 in the US) 3 years before, and had two top ten albums already under his belt. True, Hunky Dory sold even more after Ziggy, but Bowie was a reasonably well-known artist by Certainly not obscure.
